Following Portugal's elimination from the 2026 World Cup, criticism has been directed at both Cristiano Ronaldo and coach Roberto Martinez. Analyst Diogo Pereira told WP SportoweFakty that Ronaldo "leaves with the feeling he should have achieved much more" and lacked the instinct to step aside at the right time. Martinez has also been blamed for tactical mistakes and over-relying on his ageing star.
