I ditched podcast apps for YouTube Premium and won't go back

After nearly a decade of using Pocket Casts and Spotify for audio podcasts alongside YouTube for video, the author switched entirely to YouTube Premium for one week and decided not to go back. YouTube Premium supports background listening with the screen off, and almost every podcaster has shifted to a video-first format. The platform has become the dominant home for podcasts, making standalone podcast apps increasingly redundant.
