Mayor of Niedźwiada commune convicted of drink-driving with over 1 per mille of alcohol

Marek K., mayor of Niedźwiada commune in the Lublin region, was convicted of drink-driving after a first-instance court had conditionally discontinued the proceedings against him. He had more than 1 per mille of alcohol in his system and claimed he was transporting oxygen cylinders for fish in a pond. The conviction came following a prosecutor's appeal, despite petitions from village headmen and rural housewives' associations in his defence.
