Satellite Image Reveals Painting-Like Ripples Over Ancient Seafloor in the Bahamas

NASA's Landsat 8 satellite captured a stunning image on February 15, 2020, showing the Great Bahama Bank — a submerged platform stretching about 530 km between Andros Island and the Exuma islands. The photo reveals colorful ripples of sandbanks and seagrass beds that resemble brushstrokes on a canvas. The bank surrounds a dramatic ocean drop-off called "The Tongue of the Ocean," plunging to 2,000 meters.
