US scientists engineer macrophages capable of unlimited cancer-fighting replication
US researchers have achieved a breakthrough in cancer immunotherapy by finding a way to manipulate macrophages — specialised white blood cells that infiltrate tumours and trigger immune responses. Previously, macrophages were extremely difficult to engineer in the laboratory. The new method could enable the production of an effectively unlimited supply of cancer-fighting macrophages, potentially transforming next-generation cancer treatment.
