Belgian heatwave cuts stag beetle mating season short by two weeks
A heatwave in Belgium appears to have seriously harmed the stag beetle, the country's largest native beetle and an already threatened species. Belgian scientists reported that from late June, flying males were almost entirely absent in Brussels. Extreme temperatures cut the insects' mating season short by around two weeks.
