Paris appeals court rules today on Le Pen's ban – Bardella on standby as candidate

A Paris appeals court is ruling today on Marine Le Pen's conviction for misappropriating EU funds, which carries a five-year ban on holding public office. If upheld, Le Pen's bid for the 2027 presidential election would be over. Her 30-year-old protégé Jordan Bardella, seen as more moderate in style but aligned with her eurosceptic positions, could then step in as the party's presidential candidate.
