University of Michigan Team Designs Pressurized Retractable Tunnels for Mars Bases
A University of Michigan team, competing in NASA's Moon to Mars X-Hab 2026 Academic Innovation Challenge, proposed a system of actuated, pressurized tunnels connecting astronaut habitats to other surface elements on Mars. The design would save astronauts considerable time by removing the need to suit up every time they move between modules. The project addresses key logistical challenges of future Mars missions.
