Macron visits Syria — first Western European leader since Assad's fall

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Syria for talks, becoming the first Western European leader to visit the country since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad. The trip comes ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Turkiye. Macron held discussions with Syria's new leadership during the visit.
