Ebola death toll surpasses 500 in DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo's 17th Ebola epidemic has surpassed 500 deaths. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus strain, for which no approved vaccine or treatment currently exists. The absence of effective medical countermeasures is severely hampering efforts to contain the disease.
