8,000-year-old polished stone sphere found in Azerbaijan baffles archaeologists

Archaeologists excavating the Neolithic site of Pashatepe in south-eastern Azerbaijan have unearthed a carefully polished stone sphere estimated to be around 8,000 years old. The artefact has no known parallels in the South Caucasus region, making it an extraordinary find. Its purpose remains a mystery, with researchers unable to determine what it was used for.
