Russia May Force Citizens to Verify Online Activity via State Messenger Max

Russian authorities plan to require citizens to verify "significant online activities" through the state-owned messenger app Max or via SMS, under the guise of fighting internet fraud. The measure appears in the third package of anti-fraud legislation. Critics suggest the anti-fraud framing is a pretext for expanding state surveillance of citizens' online behaviour.
