140 Baltic beaches closed due to toxic algae bloom

140 beaches along the Polish Baltic coast have been closed to swimmers. The closures are caused by a mass bloom of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), which can be deadly, especially for children and people with cardiovascular conditions. Health authorities are urging the public to strictly observe the bathing bans along affected stretches of coastline.
