Microsoft lays off 4,800 employees, thousands from Xbox

Microsoft announced it is laying off around 4,800 employees — approximately 2.1% of its total workforce — at the start of its new financial year. Most of the cuts fall on the commercial sales division and the Xbox gaming unit. The company cut around 9,100 employees a year earlier.
