Euclid telescope finds 31 ancient quasars from 13 billion light-years away
The ESA's Euclid space telescope has detected 31 distant quasars, including two record-breakers — EUCL J172902.75+641018.1 and EUCL J125308.55+705432.3 — located 13 billion light-years from Earth. Their light dates from when the Universe was just around 670 million years old, about 5% of its current age, surpassing the previous record set in 2021. Quasars are intensely bright phases of galaxy evolution powered by matter falling onto a supermassive black hole.
