Asteroid Apophis will fly past Earth in 2029 – visible to 7.6 billion people

Asteroid Apophis (99942) will safely fly close to Earth on 13 April 2029. Scientists have calculated that roughly 90% of the world's population – about 7.6 billion people – lives in regions where it could be visible to the naked eye. Actual viewing success will depend on cloud cover and light pollution. Details were presented at the "Apophis T-3 Years" workshop at the University of Padua.
