Europe heat surge: France and Spain approaching 40°C as tropical nights return

A new heat surge is sweeping western Europe, with Spain, Portugal and France already sweltering and southern UK joining on Monday. Temperatures are forecast to reach 10–15°C above seasonal averages, with highs approaching 40°C in the hottest parts of France and Spain, and the low-to-mid 30s°C in the UK. Super Typhoon Bavi is simultaneously battering the north-western Pacific.
