UK defence secretary: Britain must deliver NATO spending plan next year

UK Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis admitted that Britain will arrive at the NATO summit in Ankara without a long-term plan to meet the alliance's spending targets, calling it "mission critical" to deliver one as soon as possible. Speaking aboard the HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier near the Arctic Circle, Jarvis said he gave assurances to NATO partners in Brussels and will do so again in Ankara. Donald Trump has been pressuring NATO allies to spend more on defence, and is also reportedly unhappy with the UK's reluctance to engage in the conflict with Iran.
