Thousands lost Medicare drug coverage over debts as small as $8

Thousands of Medicare beneficiaries lost their prescription drug coverage because they were unaware their zero-dollar premium plans had begun charging fees. Debts as small as $8 in missed payments were enough to trigger cancellation. Most of those affected cannot re-enrol in a new plan until 2027.
