Earth reaches aphelion on July 6 — farthest point from the Sun this year
On Monday, July 6, Earth reached aphelion — the farthest point from the Sun in its annual orbit. This regular astronomical event occurs every year in early July. Counter-intuitively, aphelion does not bring cooler weather to the Northern Hemisphere, as it coincides with summer.
