Learning a second language slows brain ageing by up to 13 years, study finds
A study presented at the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies conference in Barcelona found that bilingual people have brains that appear around six years younger than monolingual speakers. The more languages a person speaks, and the earlier they begin, the greater the benefit — with the protective effect potentially reaching up to 13 years. Researchers say multilingualism acts as a natural buffer against brain ageing and neurodegeneration.
