Australia and Fiji sign defence pact to counter Chinese influence in the Pacific
Australia and Fiji have signed a defence pact under which Fiji will consult Canberra on regional security developments. Fiji had grown closer to Beijing under its former leadership, but the new agreement signals a strategic realignment toward Australia. The deal is aimed at countering China's growing influence in the Pacific.
