FAA proposes legalising supersonic flight by regulating sonic boom intensity
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed shifting its approach to supersonic flight by regulating the intensity of sonic booms rather than banning speeds above Mach 1 outright. Under the new framework, supersonic flight over land would be permitted as long as the boom remains below a defined noise threshold. The change could pave the way for a new generation of quieter supersonic aircraft to operate commercially over the United States.
