EU's €3 per-item customs fee dismantles Chinese e-commerce logistics model

From 1 July, every individual item in a parcel from outside the EU is subject to a flat-rate customs fee of €3. The measure is designed not to burden consumers directly but to target the core logistics model of Chinese e-commerce platforms like Shein and Temu, which rely on shipping vast numbers of cheap individual parcels. The fee makes the existing distribution model economically unviable, forcing Chinese retailers to rethink their supply chain strategy.
