"Minions & Monsters," a 1920s Hollywood-set prequel in the Despicable Me animated universe, opened with $61 million over the July 4th holiday weekend, well below projections and a franchise-low debut. The film earned $36 million Friday–Monday from 4,243 North American locations. Meanwhile, "Supergirl" suffered a brutal 74% drop in its second weekend.
