Alibaba bans Claude for staff – Anthropic accuses the firm of using 25,000 fake accounts to steal training data

Alibaba has ordered staff to stop using Anthropic's Claude Code after the tool began flagging connections from China. Anthropic had already been attempting to block Chinese firms from accessing Claude. The company accuses Alibaba of running large-scale "distillation" campaigns, deploying around 25,000 fake accounts to train its own AI models on Claude's outputs.
