Mystery repeating radio signals from ASKAP J1745 traced to binary star system

Astronomers have made a major step toward explaining mysterious, repeating radio signals by identifying the source ASKAP J1745 as located within a binary star system. The rhythm of the emissions is tied to the mutual orbit of the two strongly interacting stars. The finding could shed light on the origin of other similar long-period radio sources detected by radio telescopes.
