Lithuania's president: NATO will split if defence spending stays below 5% of GDP
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda warned on Friday that NATO could split into two or three parts if European member states fail to meet a defence spending target of 5% of GDP. He highlighted a real threat to the cohesion of the Atlantic Alliance. NATO's current spending target is 2% of GDP, and proposals to raise it to 5% remain controversial among member states.
