"Supergirl" Earns Just $67M Opening Weekend — Less Than "The Flash" Made in 3 Days

A week into its theatrical run, the DC Universe 's second installment, Supergirl , is lagging behind some of the biggest superhero bombs of recent times. Supergirl opened to mixed reviews last week, and underperformed in its box-office debut. The film grossed just $37 million in its first three days of release in domestic theaters, against a reported budget of more than $170 million. Directed by Craig Gillespie , the film didn't fare much better overseas either, grossing just $30 million in its first weekend. A recent report suggested that Gillespie clashed with studio bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran over the movie's final cut, which continued to test poorly for months on end despite tinkering from both sides.
