25,000 protest AfD congress in Erfurt; party re-elects leaders and eyes power

Up to 25,000 demonstrators took to the streets of Erfurt on Saturday to protest the AfD congress, blocking roads leading to the venue. Despite the mass protests, the far-right Alternative for Germany party re-elected its existing leadership and declared itself ready to take power. The AfD is currently polling at record levels.
