Tom Hanks' "Masters of the Air" on Apple TV+ is a #1 late-night streaming hit

When it comes to the World War II genre , few actors have starred in as many high profile projects as Tom Hanks . The first feature film that immediately comes to mind is Saving Private Ryan , the 1998 Oscar-winning film directed by Steven Spielberg . Matt Damon also has a key role in the film, which grossed nearly $500 million at the box office — no small total for a movie almost 30 years old. Hanks and Spielberg reunited a few years ago to produce a new series for Apple TV, Masters of the Air , which has been described as Top Gun: Maverick set during the days of WWII. Masters of the Air wasn’t Hanks’ first WWII project on Apple TV, though. That title belongs to Greyhound , his hit naval thriller that performed so well that Apple TV greenlit a sequel to the film.
