Borghese Gallery: masterpieces amassed through intrigue and plunder by Cardinal Scipione
The Villa Borghese Pinciana on Rome's Pincian Hill was built from 1607 at the behest of Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V. The art collection was assembled not only through purchases but also through forced seizures and political intrigue, with some pieces later ending up in the Louvre. Today the gallery dazzles with sculptures, Renaissance works and a unified narrative that integrates the exhibits with the villa's architecture.
