NASA tests offline AI doctor for ISS astronauts on deep-space missions

NASA's Johnson Space Center is testing an offline AI clinical decision support system called CMO-DA (Crew Medical Officer Digital Assistant), built with Red Hat, to help astronauts diagnose medical conditions without Earth-based doctor consultations. The tool is designed for deep-space missions where signal delays make real-time medical advice impractical. It runs AI models in a containerised manner, ensuring predictable offline performance aboard the ISS and future spacecraft.
