Expert: Sudan's civil war would not continue without foreign support
Sudan affairs analyst Jan Pospisil says that while Sudan's civil war is not a proxy war in the literal sense, it "would not go on like this" without international support, particularly arms supplied by the UAE to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The siege of El-Obeid has lasted nearly a year, with the RSF determined to seize the city. None of the key external players — the UAE, the US or Saudi Arabia — have sufficient leverage to broker a ceasefire.
