Pope Leo praises US tradition of welcoming immigrants in implicit rebuke to Trump

Pope Leo, the first American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, used his first major address to his home country to praise the United States' history of welcoming migrants. Invoking the ideals of the Declaration of Independence, he said the word "America" had become a byword for freedom worldwide because of that openness.
