Japan, Italy and UK sign £4.6bn contract for GCAP sixth-generation fighter jet

Japan, Italy and the United Kingdom have awarded an 18-month, £4.6 billion ($6.1 billion) development contract to the Edgewing industrial consortium to advance the GCAP sixth-generation fighter jet programme. The contract will fund completion of the advanced concept and assessment phase, as well as joint detailed design and development. The deal was announced three days after the UK published its Defence Investment Plan, which unlocked the necessary funding after months of delay.
