Ebola and Marburg hit Africa simultaneously — over 430 dead in DRC
The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded over 430 deaths and more than 1,400 Ebola infections, while Uganda has confirmed 20 cases and 2 fatalities. Both countries are battling the rare Bundibugyo strain, for which no approved vaccine exists. Uganda has also confirmed an isolated case of Marburg virus in an 18-month-old child in Kyegegwa district, who subsequently died. The simultaneous emergence of both deadly pathogens poses a severe regional health threat.
