Canada approves new oil pipeline after C$150bn investment in BC and Alberta

Canada's federal government and the province of Alberta have announced a new oil pipeline will proceed, backed by more than C$150bn in investments in British Columbia and Alberta. Prime Minister Mark Carney brokered the deal to address concerns from BC and First Nations communities on the Pacific coast. The package includes port expansion and whale protection measures. The wider goal is to reduce trade dependence on the US and expand into overseas markets.
