Rubin Observatory opens in Chile to film the entire southern sky for a decade

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile was officially inaugurated at the turn of June and July 2025, funded by the US National Science Foundation and Department of Energy. Over the next decade, its camera will regularly photograph the entire southern sky, producing an ultra-high-resolution time-lapse record of the Universe's evolution. The observatory is named after astronomer Vera C. Rubin, whose research provided some of the strongest evidence for dark matter.
