France heatwave death toll surpasses 2,000

The heatwave that struck France at the end of June has killed at least 2,025 people, health minister Stephanie Rist told TF1 on Friday. The death toll may rise further, with fatalities particularly concentrated among people over the age of 45. It is one of the deadliest extreme heat events in French history.
