The Strait of Malacca is sometimes cited as a model for how Oman and Iran might collect transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz. However, the two waterways differ vastly in geopolitical, legal and economic terms. Those differences make a straightforward transfer of the Malacca model to Hormuz unrealistic.
