Unusual LIGO signal could link primordial black holes to dark matter

An unusual gravitational wave signal detected by LIGO has renewed hopes of discovering primordial black holes, which until now have remained purely theoretical. If confirmed, the finding could represent a major breakthrough in explaining the nature of dark matter. Primordial black holes would have formed shortly after the Big Bang and could account for a significant portion of the universe's dark matter.
