Star Wars' "Maul — Shadow Lord" gets Season 2 and first official spin-off

2026 has been one of the more exciting years for Star Wars fans in recent history, as it’s the first time since 2019 that the franchise has released a movie to the big screen. After its years of development, it's safe to say there was some anticipation for The Mandalorian and Grogu , but the hype didn’t carry over to box office results. At the time of writing, the film has grossed $328 million at the global box office, and it's expected to finish its run as the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history. It was a completely different story for Maul — Shadow Lord , the first Star Wars Disney Plus show of the year that earned widespread acclaim from critics and fans. Disney has already confirmed that Season 2 is in the works and that the wait for the next season won’t be overly long.
