Planet Survived Its Star's Death and Now Orbits Extremely Close to It

Astronomers have found a planet that survived its host star's evolution into a red giant, and it now orbits extremely close to the stellar remnant. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is being used to study how the planet ended up in such a tight orbit after surviving the star's "death." Several such planets have been discovered, but this one's proximity makes it especially valuable for research.
