Digital Ruble Ready for Widespread Use by September, Says Russia's Central Bank Chief

Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina announced that major banks and retailers are on track to begin accepting the digital ruble by September 1. This marks the first announcement of a mass rollout of the state-issued digital currency in Russia. Unlike decentralised cryptocurrencies, the digital ruble is issued and controlled by the central bank.
