Germany replaces Bürgergeld with Grundsicherung from 1 July — Poles affected

Germany has replaced the Bürgergeld welfare payment with a new system called Grundsicherung as of 1 July 2025. The basic payment rate stays the same, but recipients — including many Polish nationals — face stricter requirements around job-seeking activity, and sanctions for non-compliance will be applied more quickly. The reform affects all foreigners drawing social benefits in Germany.
