Cadillac had a dismal second quarter as sales dropped 19.2%.
The CT5 sedan outsold the Lyriq, Optiq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ.
V-Series also had its best quarter and best first-half ever.
Several automakers have written off sedans, but something interesting happened at Cadillac last quarter. Sales of the CT4 and CT5 were up, and the latter ended up beating several crossovers.

Starting with the entry-level sedan, second quarter CT4 sales climbed 9.4% to 1,564 units. The model is also up 17.7% for the year, but that trend will soon come to a crashing end as production wrapped up last month .

That will leave the CT5 as the company’s only sedan in America. However, it’s doing surprisingly well as buyers snapped up 4,311 of them in the second quarter. That means the model outsold the Lyriq (4,208), Optiq (4,236), Vistiq (2,001), and Escalade IQ (1,771). The sedan also wasn’t far behind the ancient XT5, which somehow managed to find 5,764 takers.

Speaking of gas-powered models, Cadillac is getting hammered by the elimination of the XT4 and XT6. Those two crossovers generated 8,869 sales in the second quarter of 2025, so it’s hardly surprising that the new gas-powered vehicle that will be built in Spring Hill, Tennessee, is rumored to be a new XT6.
On the electric side, GM described Cadillac as “America’s luxury EV leader.” The company also noted the brand achieved its best-ever EV sales in the second quarter. While the Optiq and Vistiq were up, the Lyriq was down 16.1%, and the Escalade IQ was off 2.2%.
The gas-powered Escalade was also down as sales fell 5.9% to 10,999 units. More alarmingly, year-to-date sales have dropped 17.7% to 20,062 vehicles.
Cadillac noted the V-Series had its best quarter and best first half ever. This can likely be explained by several new additions, including the Optiq-V and Lyriq-V . However, the CT4-V and CT4-V Blackwing are now toast.
Overall, Cadillac sales were down 19.2% for the quarter and are off 22.3% year-to-date. The latter figure is the worst among GM brands, although Buick isn’t far behind with a 20.9% drop.

Should Cadillac keep making sedans instead of focusing on crossovers?
