Disney confirms Moana 3 in development alongside live-action remake

The last few years have been a roller-coaster for Dwayne Johnson , who recently went to A24 in pursuit of an Oscar for his latest film, The Smashing Machine . This came as a surprise to fans who only mostly knew Johnson for his work in big-budget blockbuster films — he is one of the highest-grossing actors of all time despite only acting in one single DC movie ( Black Adam ) and no Marvel movies. Johnson did not find Oscar gold with The Smashing Machine , and this year he returns to the world of blockbuster filmmaking with the live-action Moana movie, which has been years in the making. It’s now been 10 years since the first Moana hit theaters, and after its 2024 sequel grossed over $1 billion at the box office, the live-action film could yet be one of the biggest hits of the year.
