Italy recovers priceless Etruscan frescoes from François Tomb for €15 million after 160 years
After more than 160 years, Italy has recovered the frescoes from the François Tomb — among the finest surviving examples of Etruscan painting — by purchasing them for €15 million through the Ministry of Culture. The tomb is linked to the Etruscan civilisation, which predates Rome. The frescoes disappeared in the 19th century before finally being repatriated.
