Czech Parliament Strips President Pavel of Power to Appoint Ambassadors
The Czech Chamber of Deputies has stripped President Petr Pavel of his power to appoint ambassadors to international organisations, transferring that authority to the foreign minister. The Presidential Palace issued a statement in protest. Earlier, Pavel and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš had clashed over who would represent the country at the NATO summit in Ankara, a dispute ultimately settled by the Constitutional Court.
